Mendoza, Amelia Briones, 89, passed away October 2, 2020 of natural causes at Parks Retirement Home in Odessa, Texas. She was born in Saragosa, Texas on May 15, 1931. At the age of 16 she married Patrico G. Brijalba, she gave birth to four children, Patrico M. Brijalba Jr, Robert M. Brijalba, Manuel M. Brijalba and Ana B. Contreras. She is preceded in death by her son; Manuel, daughter; Ana and granddaughter; Adriana Contreras. She is survived by her sons; Pat (Mary Alice) Brijalba, Robert (Margie Barela) Brijalba, grandchildren; Julie Ann Mendoza, Cathy Brijalba, Richard Manuel Contreras, Luis Contreras, Anthony Contreras and Raquel Contreras and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
During her lifetime she lived in La Loma, Balmorhea, Saragosa, Pecos and farms as she followed her husband. Amelia was independent and worked at Reeves County Memorial Hospital as a Cook and then at Pecos Head Start. She owned a Restaurant, Grocery Store and sold Avon. Amelia had many friends and loved to look after older friends. She loved having friends over for social evenings. Amelia drank beer with ice so she would not gain weight. Amelia smoked socially with friends but never inhaled, she looked like a Choo-Choo Train. Young people liked to hang out with Amelia because she was fun. Until Dementia took over, she prayed the her Rosary every Wednesday. Amelia always had a positive attitude and loved to joke around with her nurses and was often heard singing in the halls of the nursing home. With all her family and friends gone she often remarked that she was ready and waiting on the Almighty, she will be greatly missed.
Visitation Wednesday October 7, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 2:00 P.M. at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home at the Pecos Funeral Home location, 607 W. 3rd Street, Pecos, Texas 79772. A graveside service will be held at Balmorhea Cemetery on Thursday October 8, 2020 at 10:00 A.M.
Due to COVID19 Outbreak we are limiting the visitation to the immediate family up to 40 people, masks are required to enter the funeral home. The graveside services will be outside and social distancing and masks are required.
