Maria "Hela" G. Matta, 78, of Pecos, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Pecos, Texas.
Maria "Hela" G. Matta was born in Coyame, Chih. to Tito Gavaldon and Guadalupe Olivas on August 2, 1942. She went to school in Coyame. She married Adan M. Matta on April 8, 1961 in Ojinaga, Chih. She worked and was owner of Hela's Flower Shop for 25 years. She was a member of the Guadalupana's de Santa Rosa De Lima, Alter Society and Kitchen Service. Maria "Hela" served as Grand Marshall for 2019 for the 16th of September Parade.
Maria "Hela", is preceded in death by parents; Tito Gavaldon and Guadalupe Olivas Gavaldon, Petra Gavaldon (mother), brother; Manuel Nieto, sisters; Gloria Sanchez, Ignacia "Nacha." Jimenez.
Maria "Hela" G. Matta is survived by her husband Adan Matta, daughters; Ester M. Samaniego of Odessa, Tx., Isela Garica (Ral) of Pecos, Tx., Molly Vasquez (Bruno) of El Paso, Tx., Son Adan "Sonny" Matta Jr. (Alice) of Odessa, Tx., grandson: Chris Sanchez (Lydia) Of Odessa, Tx., brothers; Epigmenio Gavaldon of Odessa, Tx., Chuy Olivas of Mexico, JoseLuis Gavaldon of Pecos, Tx., sisters; Bertha Aguilar, Maria Dela Luz Reyes, of Odessa, Tx., Cristina Munoz, Irma Gavaldon, Socorro G. Serna and Manuela Reyes of Pecos, Tx., 14 granchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 8, 2021 from 9 am to 4 pm, with Rosary from 2pm. to 4pm. at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel, Funeral service will be on Tuesday February 9, 2021 at 10 am. at Santa De Lima Catholic Church. with Father Cruz officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Arrangements are by Peaceful Garden Funeral Home.
Pall bearers; Chris Sanchez, Adan Matta III, Joel Matta, Israel Matta, Raul Garcia Jr., James Garcia, AJ Samaniego, and Isa Vasquez.
Due to the COVID-19 PANDEMIC 50 immediate family members are limited in the funeral home, masks and social distancing is to be maintained at all times. On the Day of the Funeral Service the immediate family members that will be placing the Pall outside the Church are to be at the Funeral Home, and the rest of family and guest are to be at the church by 9:30 am so they can be seated at the church (Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church) requested by the Church Staff.
